Doubt this is 64bit specific since I had this problem while using 32bit systems (see "Note" at the end). I seem to recall the d3d error as always being there though. All of my systems have been stock installations but I do keep up with the latest files, sometimes to my detriment ;)
Hardware:
Processor: AMD X2 5600 Motherboard: ASUS M2N-E NF570ULTRA EVGA 256Mb GForce 8600GTS
Software:
Ubuntu 64bit 8.10 Driver: NVidia driver version 177
Error after execution:
fixme:d3d:IWineD3DImpl_FillGLCaps OpenGL implementation supports 32 vertex samplers and 32 total samplers fixme:d3d:IWineD3DImpl_FillGLCaps Expected vertex samplers + MAX_TEXTURES(=8) > combined_samplers fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x32f77c,0x00000000), stub! fixme:x11drv:X11DRV_desktop_SetCurrentMode Cannot change screen BPP from 32 to 8 fixme:d3d_surface:IWineD3DBaseSurfaceImpl_Blt Can't handle WINEDDBLT_ASYNC flag right now. fixme:d3d:IWineD3DDeviceImpl_Release (0x13d600) Device released with resources still bound, acceptable but unexpected fixme:d3d:dumpResources Leftover resource 0x145a20 with type 1,WINED3DRTYPE_SURFACE
Note:
I have also had the exact same problem on two machines one with a AMD T-bird and the other with an Athlon XP processor. Both used standard ASUS motherboards (don't remember the exact but they had VIA chipsets). Video cards were PNY GForce4 MX440. In both cases I used officially released NVidia drivers. Versions of Linux were a variety from Mandrake to the latest versions of SUSE for two years up until about a year ago, to the latest versions of Ubuntu. I attempted to run the game with the latest dev releases of wine at various times. over the past four years.
