However, I'd be prepared to liaise with someone in this case to try out patches (on the original activation bug the owner of chessbase 12 said exactly that). Also with some commitment from wine, it might well be possible to persuade the publisher to allow wine to have a copy for the purpose of improving compatibility. Particularly as it's old software, and also the key is needed to use it for more than a couple of minutes (except that wine's implementation of the lockout doesn't quite work right and nor is code itself particularly well implemented here either which is why I can still use my purchased copy with wine without being able to activate it). With their permission I'd happy share my key knowing that it would be unregistered at the end of the testing so as not to cause me problems.
