[Bug 13600] allow using glyphs from mlutiple fonts in font substitution

fwiw with Windows fonts the application shows black squares instead of empty
spaces where the Japanese characters should be.

However, there is no point in using Windows fonts here. There are several fonts
that would cover all characters that can be encoded in EUC_JP in the system
already.
