The absolute need for a separate winepulse has not been programatically demonstrated; the best argument is that "everybody (or a lot of people) use it".
I can give you an example: when I start wine (with alsa) my other audio streams get killed, so I have to stop/resume the playback or even restart the app (depending on implementation) just because wine literally doesn't want to incorporate a - for me - perfectly working patch. and that is simply put just annoying.
That's not a programmatic demonstration.
@code quality debate: If the patch doesn't conform to coding standards or whichever nature they might be then please tell us what's wrong with it so we can fix it, not simply "your code sucks". for a change try working together with people.
This has been discussed on wine-devel. This is not the correct place to specifically critique patches.
