I installed the offline (as I did not know how Wine would handle a network
connection) windows version of java available from:

http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

I could not find any bugs with the java install.

I have the Wine version available on the Ubuntu Package Manager (it says v1
there). I can't check the detailed version number as a crash just wrecked my
linux partition...

I downloaded it today so it is recent.
