I removed my .fonts folder then went to .wine/windows/Fonts and installed the
Garamond fonts from there.  This fixed my problem.
The previous ones were copied from my Windows partition.
The problem seems to be that the version installed by Word in the wine folder
was uppercase.  That in .fonts was lower case.  Could this have been causing
some kind of conflict and is this a Wine bug (Linux case sensitivity) in this
case?
