I've been testing this, and I can't reproduce the error. What I did: $ winetricks corefonts flash ... $ wine msiexec /i SteamInstall.msi ... Then just installed Civ 5 through Steam and everything seemed to work fine. For those of you who get the bug, what do you have installed in the Wine prefix, and what overrides (if any) are you using?
They seem to be running CivV directly through the CivV.exe, you did it through Steam.exe, right? Former will mess up paths and output some fun errors.
