I think it is using its own mp3 decoding functions (layer3.c file). I don't even have mpeg123 installed on my system (in Synaptic this package shows as uninstalled). I will download the demo from a different server though, maybe it's related to this polish mirror (I am getting 3 megabytes per second of download here, that's why I am using it)? Maybe the file is corrupted?
I'll try to download it from eg. Fileshack and then post a reply. Anyway, I think WINE shouldn't crash like this even if the file is corrupted (if it is).
I'll also try to reproduce the problem with a different sound card (I have an Intel HDA 8.1 card on my motherboard - it's disabled right now, and old SB Live! that works for me for a long time and never failed. I'll try to remove SB Live and try with Intel).
