It's the official release. I used Adept to get it (Basically Synaptic on normal Ubuntu) and install it. So yes, I installed it from a .deb package.
Yeah, that's what happens.
According to http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy/wine, Ubuntu 7.10 comes with Wine 0.9.46, but you filled in Wine 0.9.57 on the bug report. Can you verify which version you're using?
