In the very least Wine can help the Xorg developers in finding the root of this problem. If our binaries causes drawing anomalies then it is also our responsibility to find out why our binaries are causing this. Google Earth doesn't cause a blacked out screen on XP, Vista or 7. Vista + 7 runs on a composited environment (like Compiz) without problems. When Wine tries to run this application on the de facto composition environment of Linux it creates a blacked out screen.
What I'm getting at is that Wine also has a part to play in this problem.
