You should never really downgrade wine.
Does using q4wine and the wine-1.6.2 folder I had from a former playonlinux installation count as downgrading? I'm not really experienced, I thought this way didn't affect my system wine since the bin/lib files are somewhere else. I can still revert back to the system wine using q4wine though.
You should always report the issues you encounter as fast as possible if there >is regression. wine 1.6 series is really old. It's something like 2-3 years >behind in development you are missing lots of features and bug fixes if you >downgrade to something like that.
1.6.2 doesn't give me the freeze that is caused when I join chat/connect to others. However I still get the DirectX crash after a few seconds ingame.
Is this free game? From origin?
It was an EA MMO. It was shut down two years ago but this one connects to a homebrew server by some dedicated group. I assure you that this has nothing to do with the server. The developer runs his on Ubuntu, he had the same freeze with wine versions that are newer than 1.6.x. However unlike me, he doesn't get this critical error "Out of DirectX resources" when on 1.6.2. I'm assume it's because my CPU(I don't have a GPU card, therfore iGPU) was released in 2017 while wine-1.6.2 was released in 2014 I believe.
