Check to see if there's a file called "gameinfo.txt" in your game files, TF2's gameinfo.txt file is located in its "tf" folder. After reinstalling the game and verifying that gameinfo.txt is in the folder, it worked perfectly. No reason to disable gameoverlayrenderer.dll, that's never been an issue with me.
Gameinfo.txt is there. Gameoverlayrenderer.dll still needs to be disabled. What's your wine version?
I'm running Debian Squeeze x86_64 Nvidia Geforce 9800gt 1GB VRAM
I've used Wine versions 1.3.8-1.3.12 and about to upgrade to 1.3.13.
Odd. I'm on Ubuntu 10.04 running Wine 1.3.12 with an 8600GT still won't launch without gameoverlayrenderer.dll disabled. Though I haven't reinstalled TF2 since the issue began (because the download is enormous).
This is extremely odd, on Wine 1.3.13, source games don't want to start anymore, other games like Half-Life and Team Fortress Classic launch. However since there's a new Wine version, I'll compile it from source and see what happens there.
