I would just like to note that the same thing happens in 1.5.16 and in 1.5.17 (launcher freezes). Also, I tried reverting 6f3b097a203d9ca248732cb45eed462599ca3af1 by doing
git show 6f3b097a203d9ca248732cb45eed462599ca3af1 | patch -p1 -R
and then compiling. With the patch reverted, everything seems to work as long as I use -dx9single.
