I think I've made it stable now, and without that bug... Here's what I did:
1) I disabled GLSL in the registry. 2)Vertex shaders are set to "hardware", pixel shaders are enabled. 3) What seemed to do the trick was to lower some options: Shadows: 1/5 Decal: disabled Water shadows: 1/4 Effects: 2/5
With this I've been able to play for about an hour without problem, all the graphics looked normal.
