I did some testing with oprofile (even built wine with debug-information) and this is what I ended up with:
- Windows (XP) uses all four cores up to 80% while playing, gives me 65+ fps (including dynamic shadows) - wine (1.1.35 gentoo) uses exactly ONE core at 100% and gives about 12 fps (no dynamic shadows) - from what I could read, most of the time is spent mutex-locking in kernel and nvidia drivers.
No idea why borderlands doesn't use multicore in wine :-/
