That was also Robert Hooker's suggestion when I filed an Ubuntu bug report (https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/515933) and why I switched to Lucid Alpha 2. Since I still have the problem though, I would prefer to get them to fix the packaging issue so that it's in the distribution and I don't have to maintain it. I therefore want to keep my system with a plain jane Lucid setup to test any updated packages they might produce rather than to later have to clean everything and reinstall the packages frequently.
Regarding comment #63, I don't suppose that if we opened a new bug for the R600 NP2, you would temporarily accept a separate patch for an np2 workaround for the MESA ATI R600 if it can easily be rolled back when the Mesa ATI developers fix their bug? I figure the answer is going to be no, but I thought I would try. :-)
