[1] When you say Ubuntu/Debian/Gentoo is using ~/.Trash, what you really mean is Gnome uses ~/.Trash. KDE follows the XDG trash spec and uses $XDG_DATA_HOME/Trash, where $XDG_DATA_HOME defaults to ~/.local/share/.
