Extract from /var/log/dpkg.log

I suspect the error is related to GDI and 'Desktop  Composition'.

I've added an extract from the /var/log/dpkg.log file showing the wine updates
that I just loaded. I hope this is helpful.

Let me know if there's any way I can run a trace to help locate the problem.
