--- Comment #2 from Erik Ellis ellis@ellisdesign.org 2008-02-16 18:52:53 --- As of a side by side comparison.. i cant do that, basically what i'm going on is my years of addiction to the game when i was using windows. When i was runing windows i had about 70fps at low populated areas, and about 40-50fps at high populated areas.
In wine, i get about 110fps at low populated areas (yes, its better), but about 10-20fps at high populated areas.
Sorry i cant give a good comparison. But i could log the default channels and attach here. It might give some insight into what planetside is actually doing.
About the "I think this is true for most D3D games and applications". When i run a completely different game (Mafia in this case). I get about 20-30 fps at dense areas, but when i run it in Cedega (dont know how accepted it is to compare to an evil brother), it runs at a solid 40fps in the same areas.
My assumptions might be far away from the truth, but i thing Cedega is taking advantage of some nifty ARB extensions, something i think wine isn't doing (as much as it could). But as i said, this is just my assumptions and thats what im leaving it at.
Was hoping the VBO additions to .55 would stabilize the performance. But theres no apparent changes to the performance.
My Setup: Intel P4 "Prescott" 3.0ghz 1.5gb RAM nVidia GeForce 7600 GS (nVidia 169.09 drivers)
Un-Modified self-compiled wine .55
