Right... I don't think anyone except the original poster is disagreeing with that. What I am asking for is subpixel rendering, which freetype *does* support. Your average person is going to get that confused with "Cleartype", because they are similar. Cleartype uses subpixel rendering, but it does more than that too. The potentially patent-infringing code has to do with subpixel rendering, not "Cleartype". But, as I mentioned, Wine does not need to implement any patent-infringing code to get a subpixel-rendering option, as that can be set in freetype. Don't get hung up on the "Cleartype" thing... just pretend that this word wasn't even used in the original post, and only "subpixel rendering" was used.
