I tried fglrx 8.8 yesterday and the bug is not fixed.
Try to apply the "reintroduce X11DRV_setup_opengl_visual" patch from the attachements (which will need "some" modifications to cleanly apply though), recompile Wine, call ulimit -s unlimited and then run a 3D app under Wine. This way it works on my computer.
