I removed the riched20 dll and set the override but with no effect; do I have to re-install Word after removing the dll in order to have it install its own dll?
You shouldn't have removed anything. Just set the override. No, you would not have to reinstall Word; Office installs its own riched20.dll into a private directory, but Wine won't use it unless you tell it to.
If it didn't work, it didn't work. I figured it was worth a shot because I noticed some richedit fixmes in your console output.
You should retest this in the latest Wine (fresh install to a clean wineprefix), and if it's still a problem, post a comment to that effect.
