[Bug 14778] Unusual characters in player names crashes Team Fortress 2

I don't think it's a game bug.  If it is, it's Wine-specific.

Unfortunately, I don't have a Windows box to test this on.  No other players on
the server seem to have a problem with that name.

I'm wondering if we should schedule some kind of test, where a bunch of
Wine-TF2 users join a server, have someone with a name like Shades (or Shades
himself) join, and see if anyone crashes out.
