[Bug 17056] Team Fortress 2 launched from within steam loads, but crashes when launching any map

trying to create a local server game (offline) produces the same results.

I don't suspect an Audo/hardware problem because all my other audio
applications work perfectly except Ventrilo and only the mic is affected.

when I load tf2 all the music works fine, sound effects work fine. I even had
Pandora.com running in the background without any issues on one of the
attempts. Dealt with mashing both sets of audio no problem.
