The demo itself does not matter tremendously, it is just one demo and an ancient one at that but the fact it does not run properly does suggest Wine is having issues with how the demo was coded; a demo which runs without any problems whatsoever on Windows.
In other words -- Wine's implementation of the Windows API stack is, in this case, insufficient. Given the fact it is an older piece of software, this does suggest that other older software could have problems executing as well.
