Summary: "Unable to create window..." error prevents second life from running Product: Wine Version: 0.9.9. Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: wine-binary AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: chadjsalamon@gmail.com
I am running Ubuntu 6.06 x86, but on an AMD 64 machine (Ubuntu AMD64 wouldn't install), using an ASUS A8N5X MB and an ATI x800 graphics card using the fglx drivers. I am able to install SecondLife, however when running it fails to detect DirectX and gives the error Can't activate GL rendering context (this is in a popup window - I believe it is coming from the application and not wine). The error message from wine is "Unable to create window, be sure screen is set at 32-bit color in Control Panels->Display->Settings" (full trace attached). However I just recently installed Ubuntu on my other machine (an older machine with an Nvidia card) and doing the same thing SecondLife runs fine. I have tried running with the -ignormepixeldepth option, and I've went into winecfg and tried under Windows 2000 and XP, disabled/enabled all of the options and I've tried using a virtual desktop, nothing works. I do certainly have hardware acceleration and openGL functioning properly, but it seems to me like wine is not properly detecting or reporting the graphics capability on certain hardware configurations.
