--- Comment #1 from Michael Müller michael@fds-team.de --- Such a problem can occur when you have added third party repositories, which replace Ubuntu packages with non multiarch ready packages. Apt starts uninstalling the 64 bit packages, because those packages do not indicate that the 32 bit and 64 bit version can be installed at the same time.
This does not occur with the default Ubuntu packages. You either have to remove those 3rd party repos, or tell the authors, who created those packages, that they can not simply replace multiarch ready package with non multiarch ready equivalents.
Unless you can reproduce this problem with a fresh Ubuntu installation and without any third party packages, I would consider this bug as invalid.
