could you please post a +mci,+mciqtz trace? I'd like to know which MCI commands
get used.
I've done some testing with the MCI command shell using MPEG inside a .wav as
well as .mpg audio files, with and without some native dll, with waveaudio
(mciwave.dll) and mpegvideo (mciqtz.dll) and the results are not pretty: Sound
is chopped and awfully distorted.  Overrun errors from Alsa.  Very different
"quality" depending on how the sample is played (qtz or waveaudio or
xine/totem) etc.
Both mciqtz (or what's behind it) and codecs need work.
