That will be a major undertaking. All my systems are Xfce only. Give me a few weeks. Do you really need me to do this?
Since I can't reproduce it here that might be an xfce bug. Without testing with other WM that's just a guess.
Question: is "zero height" an invalid condition?
Creating 0-height windows is perfectly valid.
If so, is there a way to add tiny bit of height to it, so the user isn't tricked into thinking he pressed the "roll up/doll down" button"?
It depends on many things. In general Wine creates windows with dimensions asked by an application and can't treat them specially for every app.
