--- Comment #5 from Zac mrx@riseup.net 2010-04-22 13:03:00 --- Hello... Well, here we go again to the same old discussion.
Dear Mr. Margolen: Although I agree that "the exact version always makes it nice and clear", I also think it doestn't take a lot of effort to take it literally and understand that I mean just that: the latest versions at the date of my post. Anyway, I apologize. Yes, I've tested wine-1.1.43, and some of the immediately previous ones. None of them were any better. If I opened a bug for wine-1.0.1 it's just because it is the one single version which gives me the best performance with this particular software. I'm really sorry to make you spend your precious time reading useless stuff while you're so busy at work. I didn't mean to disturb you. On the other hand, I think one could say the same about your comments. Since the very first time I opened a bug here, your comments have been 100% useless, and never helped in anything. All you did was to criticize what I had written, just to say it was impossible to do anything about it. Well, if you're so unwilling to help, why to say anything at all? I'm sorry for being so (terribly!) unclear. But next time, why don't you try to read people's posts a bit more carefully and willingly, with a bit more patience, or else just ignore them. It's no use being rude at people. Sorry, I'm human. My mistake.
Juan: I'm really sorry for the above. I can only thank you for all your help. Yes, I could do another regression test, if necessary.
But the strangest thing to me is: those fonts were fine with the stable version, until the moment when I did that regression test. I might have done something wrong here (I actually did, I remember running 'make install', which I shouldn't). If you think that could be the reason for the problem, what could I do to get it fixed? I've already removed and reinstalled wine 1.0.1, but this new problem persists and I can't get rid of it.
I'm doing something strange that could also be a cause for the problem. I'm running two versions: the one I compiled for the Houaiss Dictionary, and the stable (1.0.1), because I couldn't install the OED in the compiled one, and it runs fine with the stable one. Do you think this might be causing the problem?
Besides the bad fonts, I cannot close the software the usual way. When you try to close it, it hangs on and on and you always have to kill the process. This also didn't use to happen before I did that regression test.
So... It seems I corrupted my regular wine installation when I ran 'make install' while doing the regression test. But I don't know how to fix this. When I remove wine and reinstall it, I think I'm not really getting a really fresh and clean wine, and the problem persists...
Please, I know I might be doing something silly, but, could you give me a hand with it?
Thank you very much for your time. Zac
