I get slightly more of a framerate boost from setting __GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATIONS environment variable to "1" than from the rgl patch. Also, no crashes in a couple hours. I'd say that should be the right solution.
The effects are only really visible in heavily graphical environments, such as in a capital city with a lot of players in the line of sight (such as looking a the AH in Stormwind). Basically I get 19 fps with plain wine, 26 fps with rgl and 31 fps with the threaded optimisations (averaged, but numbers are very stable).
From previous tests, this is also very representative of the performance in a
raid boss combat environment, but have not tested the threaded optimisations in a raid, yet.
