Very interesting and informative! Thanks for the info and give my thanks to Aric too.
And now a bunch of questions!
So how would one find out about what input method a specific program uses? Does Wine in Linux have direct-serial support? In other words if someone gets xinput working in Wine-OSX could I be reasonably assured that if a program had joystick support in Linux that it would also have joystick support in OSX? I ask of course because I would love to get Red Baron 3D working on my OSX partition and unfortunately it is an old game. However, it has been released several times since its original debut and it does work in Windows 7 with both the standard Windows drivers and the Logitech specific ones. It also works in Wine-Linux. Does that mean it has a good chance of using xinput? As per my first question, how would I find out for sure?
Again, thanks for the info and your curiosity. Hopefully whoever takes an interest in this problem will have a smooth road solving it. As a programmer myself, I know that's asking a lot, but one can still hope. :)
