I've been playing BF1942 under wine on Debian etch (4.0) for some time now. I've completed the campaign several times without noticing this issue. The versions of wine used range from 0.9.52 (possibly earlier) through 0.9.54.

Perhaps it has to do with your kernel and/or audio hardware?
