Unfortunately they don't do a demo or a free version, nor are interested in
working with wine (as they believe it will lead to a support burden).

ChessBase Reader 17 which was developed 5 years prior doesn't suffer from the
same problem either.

It could be an installation issue, which is why getting the problem with the
install key fixed is probably a higher priority, as perhaps a local install
rather than a copy from a windows install might fix the problem.

Happy to arrange a zoom call with a developer to run through some tests or try
out stuff to help diagnose the issue.
