[older apps]
that would cover re-volt, it was a win98 game.
...I wonder if we should close this bug as being a 'misnomer', and have folks
submit bugs on a per app basis, to better vet the situation...
I know I don't have any weight in this conversation at all, but I don't agree with this. fundamentally, if the point of wine is to "run windows apps without installing windows", then it should be able to do the same things windows can. if xp/win7/etc can auto-translate usb devices in such a way that older games can use them seamlessly, then wine should be able to do that too. otherwise you just end up given credence to the "wine never works, just dual boot" people.
I think you misunderstood me - what I'm saying is the issue is present in both linux and OSX ; it's not just a Mac thing (which is what this bug's Subject suggests) -- fact is, Mac OSX joystick support *does* work, but this entirely depends on which app you're talking about, and when we're talking about older apps, USB HID input doesn't work in linux -either- most of time ; if you want to tag this bug with Mac OSX and have it tarnish the look of an Apple, that's fine - I personally do not think it's justified however ;)
I do not for a minute think everything is *right* with USB HID input on OSX, what I posit is that there's something more fundamentally awry here that effects both platforms...and hey...the Mac's copping all the blame <grin>..
