"Insufficient RAM" is a bit of a dead giveaway; the fact that it happens "especially in crowded areas" as well. I should have said not "virtual memory" but "virtual address space"; apologies if the misleading wording caused confusion.
Okay, I read a bit about it in the Developer Guide and on Wikipedia. What I don't get is why doesn't the game crash under Windows then? Shouldn't the exact same problem occur there?
