What exact features does GStreamer enable for Wine? I've always compiled/used Wine without it and I've never noticed anything missing.
Multimedia decoding. It's possible that the game installs a native ir50_32.dll.
With ir50_32.dll from Windows XP SP2, the games starts and works beautifully.
