To add some more information to this, Danny states that he has done the installation according to these instructions: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=14318&i...
The biggest difference to my knowledge is that he is using Gnome. I used KDE4 in my test and while having some artifacts, none were as significant as those displayed here.
The only related thing i have found would be this, really old, bug: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3637
I know from personal experience that it is quite usual to use the WM_PAINT message to initiate repaints, many visual components depend on it.
With this I did not imply that the bug should be categorized as critical.
However, for the normal-to-advanced end user it will probably mean that they won't feel comfortable or be able to use the application it which means it actually is quite serious.
If one would follow the "seriousness" categories to the letter this bug is a "UI glitch that doesn't affect running of a program", hence trivial. I'd say normal.
To be honest, the severity categorization wine uses is perfect for server applications but quite inappropriate for GUI-based end-user applications, but I won't elaborate on that here.
