in wine 1.5.1 the game run from Loader.exe (not from firefght.exe) is completely playable.
I downloaded the plain version from http://www.classicdosgames.com/game/Fire_Fight.html, because cnet.com's installer is adware packed.
Please someone retest this.
Yes, though I see the same in 1.3.0, so either fixed for a while, or this version is different (FIREFGHT.exe also works).
