What do you mean "In my computer (an old semprom 2600+, single core of course), this mean the game never starts" ? That doesn't seem to follow.
That perhaps in a faster cpu (or a multicore one) it could start. I am unable to test. however you are right that it is not the point of the bug if the game start or not, but the high cpu usage.
As for the other commentary, I tried wine 1.3.9, build in my computer (not from repositories) and the result is the same.
