I should state that this is the second DirectX6 game I have problems with. The other one is Blood 2, which AFAIK also uses DX6 - this one is impossible to play in D3D mode.
Can someone post some information about the DX6 implementation of wine? I already searched the Wiki but found almost nothing about that version. Is it even supported at all?
All of DX6 (and earlier) interfaces and all or most of their functionality is there. But there are often many bugs. By selecting DirectDraw renderer you ARE selecting direct3d. Old D3D was kind of extension of ddraw. But, you are not the first person who mentions this issue in bug reports about old games (naming of renderer), so, perhaps, Wine doesn't properly report the name of device or something like that. Although it's non-essential and minor problem, to avoid user confusion it would, of course, be better if in Wine these kinds of options were presented identical to Windows. If you are absolutely sure it is "D3D" in Windows and something else in Wine (in renderer choices), and can verify that, then record exactly what it should be and what it is and/or make screenshots. But, open a new bug for that if you do, because it's unrelated.
This game reportedly ran before, so you can try some earlier versions and maybe do a regression test if they run SS2 better.
