--- Comment #3 from patrick_stokman@hotmail.com 2010-07-12 13:32:16 --- @Austin English, Is that really needed? It's takes quite a lot of time and additional packages I rather not have. I know it will save you guys time. I've found some new information that should make this step unneeded, please see below.
@Vitaliy Margolen, Currently it's the latest Ubuntu build from the Wine PPA, 1.2~rc7-0ubuntu2.
More information: I noticed with the package update from build 0ubuntu1 to 0ubuntu2 that the CPU usage by NewsLeecher itself went down considerably. The only two processes that were eating up my CPU were Compiz and X (/usr/bin/X vt7 -nolisten tcp). I just ran NL with Compiz on and the responsiveness was better than with the previous build. I turned off Compiz and ran NL again: speed was normal again. It seems that Wine applications don't always play nice with Compiz. Since NewsLeecher is the only program I use with Wine, I wasn't able to confirm the same behaviour in other applications.
Additional information about my environment: Xubuntu 10.04 x64, installed with only the most minimum of packages. Compiz-fusion installed and set as default WM.
