So, your opinion is that someone has to rewrite ALSA stack in Wine to close this bug. Fine. Any ideas when?
As was pointed out in the recent wine-devel topic, there's not anyone actively maintaining the sound code. Volunteers/patches would be welcome to do this work.
<offtopic> I wonder why all the ancient sound backends still live in the code tree. Doesn't ALSA and Jack cover all user needs? <offtopic/>
People forget that wine is used on more than just Linux...OpenSolaris, for instance, has no support for ALSA and depends on OSS.

1. The Wine maintainers want volunteers/patches for the sound code. 2. Art voluntarily writes a very popular patch to the sound code. 3. The Wine maintainers tell Art to go away and take his patches with him.
Maybe Wine needs to try some other way of attracting new maintainers?
