Bug #: 32315 Summary: Mendeley plug-in Word 2010 under wine Product: Wine Version: unspecified Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: spatialmodels@gmail.com Classification: Unclassified
Created attachment 42655 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=42655 wine output after clicking on mendeley word plug-in functions
Mendely installs correctly in wine and the word 2010 plug-in too, but this last doesn't respond to any action. Please find in attachment the output of wine, I think that the bud is related to the last three lines.
Thanks

I think that the bud is related to the last three lines.
That's quite possible, yes. You could try native wshom.ocx to see if it fixes that. What is your wine version?

Unfortunately using native wshom.ocx doesn't resolve this issue. The output now is: err:ole:COMPOBJ_DllList_Add couldn't load in-process dll L"C:\windows\system32\wshom.ocx" err:ole:create_server class {72c24dd5-d70a-438b-8a42-98424b88afb8} not registered fixme:ole:CoGetClassObject CLSCTX_REMOTE_SERVER not supported err:ole:CoGetClassObject no class object {72c24dd5-d70a-438b-8a42-98424b88afb8} could be created for context 0x15

Or try winetricks wsh57

You may need to regsvr32 it first..
Or try winetricks wsh57
I've run only wintricks wsh57 (with no regsvr32)
Now when I launch a function from mendely word 2010 plug-in I get this error on a new window:
"ActiveX component can’t create object ( 429) in Mendeley Plugin"
but no output on the terminal window now!
Thank you for your help!!

Could you try this patch?

--- Comment #6 from Nikolay Sivov bunglehead@gmail.com 2012-12-02 13:55:15 CST --- So it uses wshom to check if plugin is installed and it works with this patch, but later on it fails to create plugin control and its ProgId is not registered. So it could be installer problem or something else.

--- Comment #7 from Mavi spatialmodels@gmail.com 2012-12-03 05:53:10 CST --- :( argh!
It's strange, the application installs and seems working perfectly.. let's hope to find a solution! thank you anyway
PS: Excuse me, how can I install the patch in wine?

--- Comment #8 from Robin Marlow robin.marlow@gmail.com --- I'm using Mendeley desktop 1.11 running in wine. With wshom.ocx set as native then built in. This allows me to install the word (2007) plugin but nothing happened when I clicked insert citation.
If I apply your patch to wine 1.7.21 I get a dialogue: "ActiveX component can't create object (429) in MendleyPlugin"
fixme:ole:CLSIDFromProgIDEx L"MendeleyWordPlugin.PluginComServer.1",0x32dc74: semi-stub fixme:ole:CLSIDFromProgIDEx L"MendeleyWordPlugin.PluginComServer.1",0x32dc64: semi-stub fixme:ole:CLSIDFromProgIDEx L"WScript.Shell",0x32de10: semi-stub fixme:wshom:WshShell3_QueryInterface Unknown iface {7fd52380-4e07-101b-ae2d-08002b2ec713} fixme:wshom:WshShell3_QueryInterface Unknown iface {37d84f60-42cb-11ce-8135-00aa004bb851}
Is this something that can be easily be fixed - or something more fundamental to do with interfacing between word and other programs using vba?
Robin

--- Comment #11 from Leo leonardopsantos@gmail.com --- I just tested Mendeley Desktop 1.13.7 with wine wine-1.7.38 and I still get the error when I click on the References ribbon:
Runtime error '429' ActiveX component can't create object
According to bug #35544, this should be fixed. It's not.
If I run Word 2010 form the command line, I get

--- Comment #13 from David hiperdesign.hg@gmail.com --- Hello,
I would like to suggest reopening this bug, because it is still not fixed. (It was marked a duplicate of bug 35544 which was closed with "Closing bugs fixed in 1.7.37.") However, the issue persist with a newer version of Wine (1.8.6) as well.
To sum up my case: I can successfully install MS Office, Mendeley and the Word plugin, but if I click on "References" in Word, I get the following as "Microsoft Visual Basic" error:
Run-time error 429: ActiveX component can't create object.
Then, if I click on anything in the Mendeley Cite-O-Matic section, I get the following as a "Mendeley Word Plugin Problem" (notice the different headers):
ActiveX component can't create object ( 429) in MendeleyPlugin. For more help, visit http://support.mendeley.com
I attach the wine output as well, which is different than the one posted in Comment 0. (First two lines were output during clicking "References", last three while clicking "Insert citation".)
Thank you in advance if you decide to look into this, currently this is the only thing that keeps me from using Wine.
Cheers, David
Config: openSUSE 42.1 Wine 1.8.6 (with vcrun6, wsh57 and corefonts installed, version set to Windows 7) MS Office 2010 (32bit) Mendeley 1.17.9
