Summary: Final Fantasy XI: Installing US PlayOnline Viewer is configured as EU version. Product: Wine Version: 1.1.38 Platform: All OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: Danix0@gmail.com
When installing the PlayOnline Viewer (POL) of Final Fantasy XI from the Vana'diel Collection 2008 US version, it configures POL as the EU version. You can test this by installing POL and before you update, it will have only 3 buttons, Network, Next and Cancel, if it installed as the US version. If it has 4 buttons, Network, Next, Cancel and Language, it has installed the EU version. This problem seems to affect wine 1.1.38 and above.

--- Comment #3 from Daniel Melzak Danix0@gmail.com 2010-03-24 12:25:54 --- When installing on windows, it installs properly and does not set up the program to download or configure the EU information. I have never messed with git, although I will look into it. I was using the prepackage versions for Ubuntu 9.04 x64, I tested by installing with a version that I knew was working (1.1.33) and then reinstalled with each version above that. The change in behavior happens with 1.1.38.
Thank you for your time.

--- Comment #4 from Daniel Melzak Danix0@gmail.com 2010-03-26 14:02:10 --- I think I have found the patch that is causing the issue. I spent time compiling with git so that it removed the patch, which fixed the language setup problem, and then recompiled with the patch and the problem returned.

Confirming. Using http://dl.square-enix.co.jp/polus/setup.exe
wine-1.1.37 - window with 3 buttons wine-1.1.38 - window with 4 buttons and extra directory EU directory after installation (Program Files/PlayOnline/SquareEnix/PlayOnlineViewer/EU)
Bisected commit 0d770c96fe3172a7db64d7efb7819a70a6352370 from comment #4 is correct.
In clean wine environment, comparing installation console log from with and without the commit doesn't show anything suspicious.
When testing under current git (wine-1.1.41-211-g719d904), still gives 4 buttons (for current git you will need to cope with another regression - bug 22197). URL above shows POL US, thus probably end up with US version.
...and adding Hans to CC.

Have you tested what happens under Windows?
I also did the test (under WinXP) and this doesn't happen there - neither in wine till Hans's commit.

Hi Hans, unfortunately it isn't fixed. Tested under wine-1.1.43-347-gb939193.
Reopen please.

--- Comment #13 from Hans Leidekker hans@meelstraat.net 2010-04-29 06:35:11 --- Are you sure? I just installed it and there was no EU directory. Reverting the patch brings back the EU directory.

Hans, please excuse my stupidity. Of course, current git is wine-1.1.43-387-gce3c1df and not wine-1.1.43-347-gb939193.
Thank you for your work. And if this was too easy for you and would like another brain activity there is bug 20444. I could give some more feedback and testing in timely manner if interested.
