--- Comment #2 from kowalski marcin yoshi314@gmail.com 2012-07-01 12:40:10 CDT --- I confirm this. The game keeps spamming with "something very funny about your video card" all the way through loading. You just have to hold enter or ESC all the time, as dialog constantly reappears.
Game is usable once you get past it.
Tested on current wine, mesa r600g git driver with ati radeon hd3300 integrated graphics.
Launched the game, picked to exit from the menu, confirmed. Game crashes at the end, after exiting, but the same thing happens on my windows xp installation.
No crashes in the game, also after that loading dialog mess, rest of the game seems not to obstruct the player with that dialog, nor crash.

--- Comment #4 from kowalski marcin yoshi314@gmail.com 2012-07-01 12:45:49 CDT --- a small correction, i am not yet using a git build of mesa for 32bit opengl drivers, but stable 32bit libraries gentoo linux offers for multilib x86-64 setups.
I'm just getting around to test it on current git of mesa. If there are any changes in behavior, i'll post about it.

--- Comment #8 from kowalski marcin yoshi314@gmail.com 2012-07-01 23:41:02 CDT --- did you try simply holding esc as the game loads to keep dismissing the message box?
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31082
--- Comment #9 from Vanack Sabbadium ubuntugamingproject@gmail.com 2012-07-02 04:04:11 CDT --- Oh, yeah, i did it and you're right. After about 2 minutes of keeping button "esc" pressed, the game starts and it's greatly playable. Then it crashes at the exit.
So i think i'm gonna change my test, because i thought that it couldn't be avoided. The bug, anyway, persists!

--- Comment #10 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2012-07-02 09:35:29 CDT --- The problem with the error messages on startup can be reproduced with the demo version as well (download link added to url).
According to my testing, this is a regression from Wine-1.3.28:
bbb77cba74e98c36cf24b371939dd0e15a3b4c00 is the first bad commit commit bbb77cba74e98c36cf24b371939dd0e15a3b4c00 Author: Henri Verbeet hverbeet@codeweavers.com Date: Thu Sep 8 23:50:37 2011 +0200
wined3d: Add support for flipping compressed surfaces to surface_cpu_blt().

The crash when exiting the game could be a different problem, and that seems to be another regression somewhere between 1.3.25 and 1.3.27.

Created attachment 40939 [details] patch
This patch should help.
The patch indeed fixes the startup problem, and the demo exits cleanly now. However, a new problem occured: the menu is empty, occasionally menu options are flashing in and out as I move the mouse pointer, but most of the time it remains empty. Henri, have you also noticed this?

--- Comment #13 from Vanack Sabbadium ubuntugamingproject@gmail.com 2012-07-09 12:13:02 CDT --- The patch works well! Now it starts without errors but then it crashes when exiting!
GyB i can't reproduce the thing you're saying. Menù works well for me and i have no flashes...
Anyway, if this can help you, i've encountered your problem in old wine versions, in particular wine < 1.1.25, where there was no "something very funny..." bug, but playing was still hard with those flashes.
Henri, you can implement the patch into the next wine version, cause it works.
P.S. I attached a new log of my last trial...

Okay, if the patch works for you, that's fine.
For the sake of completeness: - I tested with the demo version as I don't have the full version of the game - patch applied on Wine 1.5.8 (no PlayonLinux here) - Fedora 17 (x86), Gnome 3.4.2, X.Org X Server 1.12.2 - Nvidia 250 gfx card, proprietary driver 295.59 - ALSA 1.0.25 (Pulseaudio is not running) - gcc version 4.7.0 20120507 (Red Hat 4.7.0-5) (GCC)
one more note: also tested with the open source Nouveau driver: the originally reported problems (error messages on startup and crash on exit) don't occur in vanilla Wine 1.5.8. On the other hand, the game is unplayable with Nouveau, because models and text are not drawn correctly.

--- Comment #16 from kowalski marcin yoshi314@gmail.com 2012-07-09 14:41:35 CDT --- confirming, no problems when loading game or playing. i still have a crash at the end when exiting the game (could be a quirk with that 1.02 patch, as it happens on winxp as well).
64bit, r600g mesa driver, wine 1.5.8 + patch.

Yeah, I saw that, but wasn't sure if that was an existing bug or not.

--- Comment #19 from Henri Verbeet hverbeet@gmail.com 2012-07-11 17:53:02 CDT --- Should be fixed by commit d26a3858d918520c58b5d1e597dabe428a58898a. If there are additional issues those probably deserve their own bug report, but if e.g. the crash on exit from comment 13 happens on native Windows as well that's obviously not a Wine bug.
