[Bug 15751] New: CFileSystem_Steam::Init() failed: failed to find steam interface

I receive the error "CFileSystem_Steam::Init() failed: failed to find steam
interface" When trying to start any steam game. I have tried several wine
versions as well as wine GIT. I have completely cleared out .wine and
reinstalled the game many times but I still get the error.

Invalid. You have to have Steam running and installed properly if you running
games directly. Or you need to start them from Steam itself.

Thats not invalid. I have steam running and installed properly. I am not
running the games directly, I am running them from the steam interface please
reopen this.

Remove ~/.wine directory. Reinstall Steam as describe on AppDB's Steam howto:

If the problem persists, attach complete terminal output. What exact game are
you starting?

The first thing I do is remove the ~/.wine directory everytime and start from
complete scratch... Its very bizarre. I've compiled different versions of wine
as well but still get the same thing. So far its been consistant for happening
with Team Fortress 2 and Day of Defeat Source. Counter-Strike Source works
perfect however.

As far as terminal output goes, what winedebug flags should I set?

None. Don't forget to include exact command you use to start Steam. And the
directory you stating it from.

What filesystem is your homedir on?
How are you reinstalling Steam?
Can you go into game properties and verify integrity of files (button on last
tab)?

the Homedir is on ext3. I am reinstalling steam by doing rm -r ~/.wine and then
winecfg followed by wine start SteamInstall.msi.

I have also checked the integrity of the files by doing both 
"Verify integrity of game cache"
and
"Defragment cache files"

That is correct. Let me add however that I have to commonly exit steam
abnormally because of the download freezing up. I get typically get an errors
like this:

err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x7e5d0920 "x11drv_main.c:
X11DRV_CritSection" wait timed out in thread 0017, blocked by 0009, retrying
(60 sec)

Which freeze up Steam. Restarting steam allows the download to continue. I have
to do this 2-3 times before the download fully completes. This happens with all
games regardless.

hi, there i am having the same issue "CFileSystem_Steam::Init() failed: failed
to find steam
interface" with day of defeat source, iam running with wine-1.1.17 with clean
prefixe. Btw counter strike source works, i bought both legally.
