Summary: Deus Ex: Invisible War crashed upon loading the main menu. Product: Wine Version: 1.1.16 Platform: PC-x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: directx-d3d AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: holy.smoking.floorboards.batman@gmail.com
Basically, I've tried running Deus Ex 2 for some time now in the last few releases of Wine. The game installs just fine and when I start it up the intro videos play just fine (including sound) but when the main menu loads, the game crashes. What is supposed to happen is that the main menu buttons are supposed to 'swirl' around a central logo. Instead, the buttons will start 'swirling', but then stop after a brief moment (so they only go partway) and the music will play the first second, or so, and then repeat the next 2 seconds.
In the console, I get this error output repeatedly: 'fixme:d3d:state_wrap (WINED3DRS_WRAP0) Texture wraping not yet supported'
I have tried updating the game, using a nocd hack and disabling sound, but nothing works. I've noticed that if I change the virtual machine from Windows XP (which is my default) to Windows 98, the game wont even detect the CD being in the drive.

--- Comment #1 from Łukasz lukp1@op.pl 2009-06-20 11:58:23 --- you can play the game. But sometimes it slows down very much. This is 'fixme:d3d:state_wrap (WINED3DRS_WRAP0) Texture wraping not yet supported' spamming. I don't know with which kind of objects it is connected. Even in menu. In some menu cards it appears, in the other not

--- Comment #2 from Daniel Harvison sirbubbles01@yahoo.com.au 2010-05-04 00:02:44 --- The problem with Invisible War is that it can't handle multicore cpus. You can use schedtool to make it stick to one cpu core, and thus make the game run. For example, schedtool -a 0x1 -e wine dx2.exe will run your game with no trouble at all.

--- Comment #3 from Roland Haeder roland@mxchange.org 2011-12-01 16:16:57 CST --- For me (with applied official patch 1.2 + NoCD from GCW to go around the CD-ROM check) DX2 works fine except some slowdowns (they randomly repeat and last for ~10 seconds). I own a legal retail copy from gamestop, but I dislike to always insert a CD before I can play games... :/
Anyway. This crash on main menu is now (separate WINEPREFIX, only gecko installed, all built-in DLLs) gone for me for several game version. Or is it still there for you? Can you try to re-install the game on a different prefix?

--- Comment #4 from Roland Haeder roland@mxchange.org 2013-06-02 16:32:56 CDT --- The game itself works now (No-CD patch may be required to workaround stupid CD check) but it changes the color palette and doesn't resume it on exit (as many Unreal Engine based games).

--- Comment #6 from Roland Haeder roland@mxchange.org 2013-06-22 16:15:18 CDT --- That is odd. Which No-CD crack did you use? I can given MD5 hash so you can search for it.

--- Comment #11 from Anastasius Focht focht@gmx.net --- Hello folks,
I can't reproduce a crash, the main menu works fine.
I installed the game from original DVD media and worked around the media validation issue with a patched 'DX2.exe' (bug 21448).
The buttons swirl from right around a rotating logo to the left side when you click them. After pressing 'ESC' the buttons swirl back to their original position.
Resolving 'fixed'.
That noisy FIXME is still present but has nothing to do with the initial reported problem.
--- snip --- fixme:d3d:state_wrap (WINED3D_RS_WRAP0) Texture wrapping not yet supported. --- snip ---
@Jarkko
The media validation issue is not subject to this bug.
