Bug ID: 39809 Summary: Empires: Dawn of the Modern World crash on startup Product: Wine Version: unspecified Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: blocker Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: Mlendea.Horatiu@GMail.com Distribution: ---
Created attachment 53145 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=53145 error log
I think this may be related to DirectDraw So I launch the game with "wine Empires_DMW.exe". The splash screen appears and the screen resolution is set to that of the game. Soon after that, the cursor is set to that of the game and the game crashes (the splash is still there)

--- Comment #2 from Mlendea Horațiu Mlendea.Horatiu@GMail.com --- So I updated to the 1.9 development branch today.
It is pretty much the same story BUT there are a few differences: - The screen resolution is not changed anymore (so basically the splash just appears and the disappears/crashes) - The mouse cursor is not changed to that of the game anymore (it crashes right before it should be changed)
I'm happy that I don't have to manually reset my resolution after every test, but I don't think this is a good thing... surely the game dosen't default to my (widescreen) resolution, even if it supports it.

--- Comment #3 from Michael Müller michael@fds-team.de --- The game behaves differently in 1.9 when using builtin dmime/dmusic because of a regression which was introduced in this release. See bug 39958 for more information.

--- Comment #8 from Zebediah Figura z.figura12@gmail.com --- Created attachment 66041 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=66041 some hacks to support cvid better
(In reply to joaopa from comment #7)
Bug can be reproduced with the demo: Gstreamer does not recognize the cinepak codec
Well, GStreamer recognizes it, but yes, we don't, and that causes problems. That makes this a regression.
The game, curiously, manually creates the AVI splitter and then autoplugs that to its own sink.
These hacks stop it from crashing, but the video looks like a black screen with some noise at the bottom, which probably isn't right. The fact that the game messes up my X11 color palette doesn't help a whole lot, though.
I need to figure out how to properly determine the image size for cvid.
