Summary: All Steam installations fail Product: Wine Version: 1.2-rc5 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: phil.bordelon@gmail.com
As of either the client update or the move to -rc2 (I've tried it in every -rc from 2 until now), I cannot get installation of any purchased game on Steam to work.
Any attempt to install an application prints these errors on the console:
err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {9a5ea990-3034-4d6f-9128-01f3c61022bc} not registered err:ole:CoGetClassObject no class object {9a5ea990-3034-4d6f-9128-01f3c61022bc} could be created for context 0x1
and then Steam exits with error code 1.
I duplicated this trivially by moving my .wine directory away, installing a fresh instance of Steam, and attempting to install any already-purchased game. It immediately generated the same error.
Of course, this used to work at some point (considering Steam's Gold status at the moment).

--- Comment #1 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2010-07-05 03:26:22 --- I assume you've tried this in a clean wineprefix? Can you try with a demo? Perhaps use wisotool to install a free steam demo (zen_of_sudoku_demo_steam should be pretty small/easy).

--- Comment #2 from Phil Bordelon phil.bordelon@gmail.com 2010-07-05 11:43:53 --- Yes, this was done with a clean ~/.wine as soon as I started trying to debug it.
I just tried wisotool with a clean ~/.wine as well, and it appears to be the same error. Everything worked up to the point where the Steam client itself started up, got updates, and so on, but then I saw the OLE errors, followed by the standard fixmes/Corrupt JPEG data lines that Steam likes to throw, and now it's just sitting there, presumably waiting for input that will never come.

--- Comment #3 from Phil Bordelon phil.bordelon@gmail.com 2010-07-08 16:26:06 --- This appears to have been a consequence of using a particular revision of the nVidia drivers. At least, it's not crashing now. Sorry about the noise!
